Wine gift from Georgian parliament gets Estonian MPs excited

Don't they have a policy on gifts to public officials? In the US, the limit is $20 (as I recall), and any gift over that must be rejected. So gift-givers know to give a gift under that value. The only exceptions are for the top officials (President, Secretary of State) where the rejection could cause a diplomatic issue, and usually those gifts just get donated to a museum anyway.

What's the going rate for a bottle of Georgian wine anyway? Reply to the comment answer

...are these the problems of the country? 202 bottles of sweet wine as a present from Georgia? If they are not able to manage such a big thing, how can they manage the FULL COUNTRY??????? Was the debate concerning this topic very long???? Maybe 1 full day talking about this, sitting in Toompea? Maybe they could drink it all during a session. That would be the easiest choice.....Unbeliavable bullshit... Reply to the comment answer

If they debated it in open session (and I'm not sure if they did), then the transcript should appear here in a few days, along with timestamps: http://www.riigikogu.ee/?op=steno&stcommand=stenogramm

ameeriklane is right. JC seems to speak from hate. If he had read the article carefuly, he would know why they spent a day discussing the issue instead of making an 'Unbeliavable bullshit...' of a post. Reply to the comment answer

Send the bottles as consolation gift to the Estonian businessmen who failed with their Ukrainian wine business! Reply to the comment answer

It is not that hard: The wine belongs to the cellar of the President of Estonia since he is the representative of Estonia which maintains diplomatic relationship with Georgia. The parliament is NOT the representation of the Republic of Estonia - neither interior nor in foreign relations! Reply to the comment answer

Dear ´red or white´,

I guess it is just matter of giving the right importance to the right things. It seems to me they do not have much to debate in Toompea.

Or were you sitting as well there to discuss that topic?....I feel you really got hurt.... Reply to the comment answer
