Lufthansa considers Tallinn as possible aircraft maintenance centre

Lufthansa Technik, the world market leader in the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) of commercial aircraft, engines and components, is looking at Tallinn as a possible MRO centre.

As reported by news2biz, the company that belongs to Lufthansa, visited recently Tallinn and met with representatives of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Civil Aviation Administration and Tallinn Airport.

The new company would be a subsidiary of Lufthansa Bombardier Aviation Services, a joint venture of Bombardier and ExecuJet and would service Bombardier aircraft in Scandinavia, Baltic states and Northern Russia.

Rein Loik, chairman of Tallinn Airport, said that it was too early to say how high are Tallinn's chances to get the centre, but that the Germans were visibly impressed.

Wolfgang Reinert, representative of Lufthansa Technik, confirmed that such a visit had taken place.

I am sure Lufthansa will find out about the Estonian work ethic and change their mind.

Sorry - a normal visit as vision - it will be a normal situation in Estonia. Competitors are: Riga ..... And a lot of specialist said some time ago - the development of airport infrastructur (only one landing strip, runway, taxiway ...) is badly. A new or renovated terminal is not the key. Also more ground for development and without groundwater - the competitors have more chances. And don't forget: outside Estonia every new established company could get up to 50% of the investment as subsidy - in Estonia only 320 thousand € - a fact, that can be interesting.... wait and see!

they should of course start with something, but it's a good start, Estonia could be the the maintenance base for many airlines, of course they should invest heavily on facilities and skilled workers... (cheaper than scandinavian countries, but still better than polish, or russians).
it's always the political will that matters.
