airBaltic opens Tallinn-Lappeenranta route

This week Latvian national airline airBaltic opened a new route between Tallinn and Lappeenranta in South-East Finland.

airBaltic will offer flights between Lappeenranta and Tallinn four times a week. The flights will be operated by Boeing 737 aircraft and will last 50 minutes.

One-way ticket prices start from EUR 35  including airport and transaction fees.

In the winter season, airBaltic will operate the new routes with aircraft flying Riga-Tallinn-Lappeenranta, and vice versa. 

Said airBaltic's Chief Commercial Officer Tero Taskila: “We are delighted that airBaltic will write history as the first airline to link Lappeenranta with Estonia and Latvia. airBaltic is rapidly expanding in Finland and we naturally want to offer extra convenience for our customers in Lappeenranta by opening these new routes. We are delighted that the new route will help to attract foreign tourists who support Estonia’s economy.”

airBaltic flies to 60 destinations including Aalesund, Almaty, Amsterdam, Athens, Baku, Barcelona, Bergen, Berlin, Billund, Brussels, Chisinau, Copenhagen, Dubai, Dublin, Dushanbe, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Geneva, Gothenburg, Hamburg, Hannover, Helsinki, Istanbul, Kaliningrad, Kaunas, Kiev, Kuopio, Lappeenranta, London, Milan, Minsk, Moscow, Munich, Nice, Odessa, Oslo, Oulu, Palanga, Paris, Pskov, Riga, Rome, Simferopol, St. Petersburg, Stavanger, Stockholm, Tallinn, Tampere, Tartu, Tashkent, Tbilisi, Tel Aviv, Tromso, Turku, Venice, Vienna, Vilnius, Warsaw, Yerevan, Zurich.

airBaltic is a joint stock company that was established in 1995. The primary shareholders are the Latvian state, with 52.6% of stock, and SIA Baltijas aviācijas sistēmas, with 47.2% of stock. The company's fleet consists of 31 aircraft – ten Boeing 737-500, eight Boeing 737-300, two Boeing 757-200, and eleven Fokker 50 airplanes.

This is very good move from the company. Lappeenranta happens to be a city with the most active russian tourists flowing over the border. Now, they have a chance to fly over into Tallinna at the same visit comfortably. Motive is natural due to major minority of russians already on the other end.

Additionally, Lappeenranta has a big technical university whose students are more than happy to have this link for sure.

Wow look: I was positive again for Estonia and Baltics.
