Latvian PM: key decisions to be made
19.12.2011, 12:32In an interview to Eesti Päevaleht, Latvian prime minister Valdis Dombrovskis, said that Latvia must do some critical decisions in the near future that will affect all three Baltic countries.
The PM said that, for instance, Latvia is supporting Rail Baltica project, but only if transport commissioner Siim Kallas succeeds in ensuring that the EU will fund not 60, but 85% of the project.
Speaking of the planned LNG terminal, Dombrovskis said that Latvia will respect the location to be selected by the European Commission for the Baltic countries, but did not rule out that there could be smaller LNG terminals built as well.
Dombrovskis added that the third key issue – to unhook the electricity systems of Baltic countries from the Russian system and connect them to Europe – was still unfounded.
