In the next few years, several large shopping centres with a total of around 100,000 square meters are likely to be built in Tallinn and in its environs, writes ERR.

Some of the largest new stores will be the new Rimi hypermarket in Laagri, the Pro Kapital Shopping Centre in Peterburi tee and Ameerikanurga, an industrial park that is located some 10 km from Tallinn at Tallinn-Tartu highway.

Several experts say that Tallinn may have already reached its limit in terms of shopping centres. Andrija Lilleoja, marketing manager of Rimi Eesti Food, says that figures of retail space per capita shows that it is already above the European average.

Veiko Muruste who develops Ameerikanurga industrial park that is expected to cost 250 million euros says that the company is prepared to start construction in the second half.

“We will have about 50,000 square metres of retail space, logistics and fair centres and 3,000 parking lots. It will be the first location in Estonia where you can buy everything you need in life.”
