Anonymous warns Estonian government
10.10.2012, 13:33Notorious hacker group Anonymous that last week took down the website of Swedish central bank posted a video on YouTube on October 8 where it threatened the Estonian government with a possible cyber attack.
The organization claimed the Estonian government had sacrificed its own people instead of helping its own people, Estonian government has channelled money to helping Greece that is much better off.
"Estonia says that it doesn’t have money but then they give 357 million to Greece," the statement declares.
Anonymous has now announced that it had postponed the attack labelled OpEstonia until Friday, October 12, because it failed to attract enough attackers.
It has also singled out eesti.ee and politsei.ee websites to be attacked first.
The video was uploaded by an AnonSwedenOp and ends with the promise: "This must end. Estonian people, we haven't forgotten you".
Estonian State Information Systems Board (RIA) communications department head Liisa Tallinn said that no cyber attacks against Estonia are taking place now but the situation is being constantly monitored.
RIA said that the posting on YouTube was primarily a position voiced by Anonymous, the video does not include a call for a cyber attack.
The board said that IT services in Estonia have been attacked in the past and most likely will be attacked in the future but the state and the private sector constantly take care of the security of their equipment and services.
