Äripäev writes that the ongoing investigation of the Silvergate affair on secret funding of the ruling Reform Party raises several questions.

Most importantly, the department of the central criminal police that is investigating corruption cases such as Silvergate is headed by Mati Ombler whose elder brother, auditor Avo Ombler, is a member of the Reform Party, has donated tens of thousands of kroons to the party and is closely linked to prime minister Andrus Ansip and the party’s influential financier Neinar Seli.

Informed sources say that he can be considered a trusted member of the Seli group.

Avo Ombler himself did not wish to comment his connections to Ansip and Seli, saying: "I would really not want to talk about it now." He also did not reply to the questions e-mailed to him by Äripäev.

Also Neinar Seli and Andrus Ansip refused to comment.
