Latvian airline airBaltic announced today of changes in its check-in procedures effective from February 1.

Customers who prefer traditional check-in will be charged a fee of EUR 10/LVL 7 for the service, if their ticket is purchased starting from February 1, 2013.

Personal check-in service at airBaltic airports is offered free of charge to Business Flex and Business class passengers, BalticMiles VIP card holders, passengers with children up to 2 years old, passengers requiring special service/medical assistance, and passengers travelling from airports, where self-service check-in is not available.

Self-service check-in available online at and on mobile devices at will be available for up to 1 hour before the flight departure, instead of the current 2 hours.

Self-service check-in opens at 12.00 the day before the flight. After completing self-service check-in, passengers travelling light with their hand baggage only, proceed directly to security screening; passengers with check-in baggage leave it at a designated baggage dropp-off counter.

Michael Grimme, Chief Commercial Officer of airBaltic: “If all of our passengers used our online and mobile check-in service, they could potentially save up to 90 million minutes of their time annually and thus also contribute to reducing queues at airports. This is a considerable collective amount of time – more than 15 years – and we would like to encourage passengers to use modern technology. For this reason, we will improve our online and mobile check-in, and also introduce a fee for passengers who prefer personal check-in service at airports.”
