Google announced this week that it has paid USD 400m for a London-based artificial intelligence company DeepMind, writes Äripäev.

The deal is relevant to Estonia because one of the investors and advisers of the company is Jaan Tallinn who is better known as one of the Estonian developers of Skype and Kazaa.

DeepMind builds applications in simulations, e-commerce and games and employs about 50 people.

It was founded in 2012 by Demis Hassabis, Mustafa Suleyman and Shane Legg. Its biggest investors were a Hongkong venture capital company Horizons Ventures and a US-based ventura capital company Founders Fund. It has its head office in London and about 75 employees.

Äripäev wrote today that hopefully the deal will inspire local Estonian seed companies to try even harder.

As known, Estonian seed companies have been doing very well internationally.
